Movie Review: Skyfall

Oh boy, yet another James Bond movie. I have to say that even the new darker, emotionally scarred, mopey version of James Bond has gotten old for me. I never much cared for the old James Bond Stuff either. In my eyes it has only been good for mining comedy material like Sean Connery quotes. On to the spoiler alerts for this particular movie.

What is Happening on Your Flight

I do not enjoy flying at all. Originally it was only because I am 6′ 7″ and have to cram myself into a tiny space for a matter of hours. That is reason enough but then, if you add kids into the mix it becomes pure hell. Despite my burning hatred for the discomforts of flying I have found it to be a fascinating process and always like to watch the machinery functioning. I recommend this very educational video that goes over what is occurring during your flight:

Now I have more to pay attention to that will take my mind off the extreme pain in my knees. But it will still suck.

King Animal

One of my favorite bands has always been Soundgarden. I have a hard time deciding on a favorite album from them. It is too hard to consistently get Badmotorfinger, Superunknown or Down on the Upside to take the lead in my eyes because they are all amazing. I was kind of glad that Soundgarden split when they did, in a “go out on top” kind of way, after I saw how monotonous the later works of groups like Pearl Jam have become. The post rebuilding Alice in Chains album is pretty good but feels more like another Jerry Cantrell solo album rather than an Alice in Chains album. And most other bands just seem to lose it as time progresses. That brings me to what I have heard from King Animal the new post-reunion work from Soundgarden.

I had extreme doubts after much of the solo work by Chris Cornell, but the snippets I have heard have got my interest piqued and my hopes up. there is this promotional video:

Then there’s the first single:

And here another video explaining a song:

So far I haven’t heard any of the old style epic stuff they used to make, but I have heard something weird, which I love, and three which could have been energetic tunes from Superunknown or Down on the Upside. Fingers Crossed.

Busy Busy Busy

I have been recording, editing, mixing and mastering songs for an album in my basement for the last little while. Therefore I have not spent that spare time making posts and such, as you may have noticed. I have resolved to make at least one post every week, even when busy making an album which I have decided to release on iTunes and the like in Feb.

To satisfy this weeks post I will put up something that is kinda dumb that I made during the recent NBA strike. I really dislike unions and this situation was no different.

Operation Smile

A few years back the band I was in played a show that benefited Operation Smile. This was the first occasion that I had heard of this organization that helps mostly kids with cleft lips and/or palates and other facial deformities. After that show, even though I was a dirt poor college student I gave money to the organization cause it seemed to be a very nice cause.

Well, today I came across this video that shows one of the kids who is helped by such events and donations:

I just thought it was really great to see her seeing her face. Go ahead and make a donation if you like.
