Dave, have you read "The Law" by Frederic Bastiat? You can find it at http://bastiat.org/en/the_law.html#SECTION_G708

It's the same old argument: are we going to use the agency God gave us to make wise decisions while here on earth, or are we going to trust in the "arm of flesh" and let men substitute themselves for God, as they puppeteer the human race according to their whims?

Excellent thoughts. Thomas Sowell is the bomb.

I think it is that way so that insurance companies can charge a higher premium if you are considered overweight. Always follow the money.

I think that the reason for this is that words' meaning are slippery. Meaning varies from place to place. Most words have multiple denotative as well as connotative meaning. Look at the word power. It could mean energy, or ability, or clout, or influence, or part of an offensive basketball scheme. In the end words are practically a guessing game in meaning using basic rules of syntax and hoping that your schema are similar enough to the author to communicate.

now who's the nerd?

I have never read any Rand. I have only seen interviews and read a couple of articles. I like what I have seen.

Ron Paul doesn't have much that I disagree with. I do cringe sometimes when he states some things as fully substantiated facts when they aren't (at least in no way I can find). But I do not find much wrong with his overall policies and ideas.

Oops. I should have said, "When they stop being 'average' people." Or maybe when "average" starts meaning well-educated, but not dogmatic in knowledge.

When they stop being people and start realizing that all of us are morons, we just chose different areas to be moronic about.
