ESPN Commercials

In spite of their horrible reporting, hypocrisy and destruction of the lives of innocent people I do find many ESPN commercials to be entertaining. Come with me for a few minutes as I turn off my burning rage and watch this:

Lots of Bombs in the Air

When you are singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl make sure you know the words. I think we all know how it feels to botch it in front of millions of viewers. Well as it turns out, Christina Aguilera is not dead and she was the one to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl this year.

For those of you that don’t know the anthem by heart listen for the line “o’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming”. (0:51 in the video)

Maybe you will find this small mess up as funny as I do after you watch what I instantly thought of when I heard her.

Good ol’ Nielsen.

I would just like to take a minute to promote a great show that is unavailable in the U.S. on television. It is called the IT Crowd. I think they were going to make a U.S. version or they may have already tried it and failed. The U.K. version is hilarious and it is unnecessary to try to change it for the U.S.. Follow these links and enjoy the hilarity:

I recommend it as long as you are aware that they have different ideas in the U.K. for what is considered offensive language.

Picture Pages

No one that I know personally has known what I was talking about when I mention ‘Picture Pages’. This is the old show that Bill Cosby did that involved some pretty sweet sound effects when he would draw things.

Please tell me someone else remembers this show and that I am not alone.

TV Turn Off Week

Apparently we are right in the middle of what some group of people has decided was a good time for TV turn off week. There is also another one in September. Learning this today a great many questions popped into my mind, such as:

  • Who is deciding when to do this?
  • Can we take a vote as to when it should be?
  • Did they pick the beginning week of the NBA playoffs for any particular reason?
  • Did they pick the start of football season for the other week for any certain reason?
  • Are they aware that all summer long there is only baseball, Nascar and golf which actually make it an extremely pleasant experience to turn off your TV?

Last summer I had a TV detox which was pretty nice until I wanted to watch the Olympics and my reception was bad because I canceled cable. I think a TV turnoff week is a good idea but it should be on your own time schedule when there are no playoffs. And go ahead and do more than one or two weeks per year. I think it is a great idea not for environmental reasons but for mental reasons. Seriously though not during the playoffs.
